This session examines the importance of schools to find creative ways to address challenging behaviors in non-exclusionary ways, since we know that punitive consequences seldom change behavior. Research shows us that the suspended student experiences a more difficult academic path, thus increasing the likelihood of dropping out and facing additional adverse life outcomes. Presenters will look at the qualitative and quantitative data from schools responding to a subject specific questionnaire and how they are positively impacting student lives. Attendees will hear from teachers working in effective settings and impacting student outcomes.
