Welcome to the Every Child Counts Symposium. This online schedule is being updated daily. Check back for updates to session dates/times and locations. We hope you’ll join us in Anaheim in February. More information on the event can be found here.
Have you ever had a blind or visually impaired student show up in your district and have no idea where to start? Have you had a parent insisting on VI eligibility or services, but your team was not in agreement? There is more to serving students with Visual Impairments than teaching them Braille. Let us demystify Visual Impairment and help you feel more prepared for your next VI student. In this session, we will provide an overview of definitions, eligibility, and services as they relate to students with Visual Impairments. We will also review issues arising from recent federal guidance related to eligibility and services for this population. Additionally, we will tackle issues related to recruitment and retention of Teachers of the Visually Impaired. The presenters will also cover the many no-cost or low-cost resources provided by the California School for the Blind, including short courses, technical assistance, consultation, assessments, and placements.
