School district personnel are increasingly being asked to administer medical marijuana for special education and general education students during the course of their school day. We will guide you through a “how to” on managing this newly developing scope of school responsibility, including compliance with applicable laws and regulations, keeping all students safe, and the pitfalls to avoid. In addition to logistical and practical considerations for administrators, we will also discuss applicable statutes, case law, and discuss actual scenarios where school districts and COEs were able to solve these complex issues.
