Under contract with the California Department of Education (CDE) for more than a decade, SPP-TAP and its Technical Assistance Facilitators continue to lead the work of reducing disproportionality and significant disproportionality in California’s public schools. Collectively, the presenters have provided in-depth Technical Assistance facilitation in more than 60 districts throughout the state.

Due to expected changes in calculation methodologies, the number of disproportionate and significantly disproportionate school districts is projected to increase over the next three years, thus making this an essential session for all educators interested in equity.

Framing their work through a cultural lens, SPP-TAP Facilitators assist districts in determining the root causes of:
  • Over identifying students from a particular racial or ethnic category in special education
  • Over identifying students from a particular racial or ethnic category under a specific disability category
  • Educating students from a particular racial or ethnic category in more restrictive settings
  • Utilizing inequitable discipline measures with students from a particular racial or ethnic category.

Created for CDE by national authorities in equitable education, SPP-TAP’s Four Phase Process uses evidence-based practices for systemic organizational change. Participants are invited to join us as SPP-TAP guides them through these practical, enactable, outcome-based activities.
