Identifying and meeting the social, learning to learn and academic needs of students with autism can challenge even the most experienced educator. Although all students may share common characteristics, they remain a diverse population requiring highly specialized programs and interventions to ensure access to the curriculum and success in the school environment. This session is for special education professionals who want to learn how to identify and address social skills, learning-to-learn skills and academic deficits for students with autism from pre-school through post-secondary. A comprehensive review of up-to-date legal decisions will provide you with insight into the development and implementation of “next-step” programs and services such as district operated behavioral programming, social communication classes, systematic functional academic and social skills classes. Participants will leave this presentation with cutting edge ideas and programmatic blueprints that they can use right away to start developing programs within their own districts. By utilizing a proactive approach to autism programming, attendees will learn how to ensure that needs of all students, from preschool through post-secondary, are comprehensively and meaningfully addressed.
