This presentation will show how one school district in partnership with its city police department deliberately designed a juvenile diversion program to focus Tier III interventions on student Education Code and/or penal code offenders utilizing community resources. Students referred to this program must attend with their parents or guardian a scheduled meeting with a panel of educators and community members who assign specific tangible consequences and restorative practices, and given a time frame to complete. Students remain in the program with regular follow-up meetings until they complete or graduate the program. We will also teach the specifics of this program, how it was designed, and sources for further ideas. We will conclude with data on how the program has affected students suspension rates and incident rates at the high school and middle school.
