Part 2 of this four-part track-designed to provide an overview of the need-to-know essentials of special education law, focuses on the legal standards for special education eligibility, including what it means to “need” special education. In addition, presenters will examine the increasingly litigated area of what districts need to do to comply with the IDEA’s “child find” requirement. Presenters will discuss compliance with the numerous procedural obligations of the law, including proper composition of IEP teams, the problem of predetermination, parental consent, and much more. After this session, participants will be ready to move on to Part 2 of Special Education 101.
