In California, millions of dollars enter the school system each year for special education and related services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and federal title programs. While earmarked for specific purposes, misconceptions about allowable use of these federal dollars often limit a district’s ability to leverage the funds to improve student outcomes. This session will assist special education administrators in identifying potential opportunities across a coherent continuum of federally funded initiatives. This session will present tools for analyzing state and local infrastructure to align identified areas of need with federal initiatives and other funding resources to maximize potential cross-program impact. Opportunities for participants to unpack real-world examples of how to braid federal funds to support LCAP priorities and initiatives will be provided.
